Why gold loses colour on skin
Jewellery-pieces of gold, that are directly worn on skin can lose colour and darken your skin. This effect seems to happen more often, when the jewellery-pieces are made of alloys of 18 ct or more.
The reason for this can´t be found in the presumtion, that these pieces of jewellery are of inferior quality, but this effect is caused by usual metalls of the alloy (gold, silver, copper).

On your skin, naturally quartz-dust of the air is collected and concentrates especially there, where your skin is wet (sweat). Together with the salt and the water an aggressive film  develops and dissolves the base metals of the surface and mechanically grinds like abrasive paper. Both effects cause very small particles to be transported from the piece of jewellery to your skin.  Those particles react with other substancesand both the particles and  their compounds colour your skin. The only thing you can do against this, is not to wear your piece of jewellery directly on your skin on hot days!
